Hart of Dixie Season 3 Premiere Review

Its 5 months later and Zoe is still in New York, cue dream sequence and Dr. Hart is seeing bluebell residents everywhere in her new hospital so much so she doesn’t realise Rose is actually there. Her new boyfriend, Joel convinces her to go back and tie up loose ends.

Zoe arrives back, spangley shorts and all to a deserted town square and inevitably the first person she runs into is old flame Wade Kinsella, who seems ok that she did not come back to him as he had hoped. The same cannot be said for the rest of the town who are furious that Zoe left. Tom Long fills her in on all the goings on and it seems that George has not returned from being on Tour and in his absence neighbouring town Fillmore is suing half of Bluebell and are threatening the town’s founders day parade.

Changes are all around and Lemon is being particularly cagey and the Belles are convinced that she has a secret boyfriend; we later discover that this is Meatball. This she confides in Wade, who is unsurprisingly disgusted, it is nice to see that they now have a solid friendship. This is shown later when Lemon enacts revenge on Zoe for Wade by claiming it is Wade that she has been sleeping with and that they are in love. It will be interesting to see how long this storyline carries on for and it is clear that it will bring about some comedic situations in future episodes.

The only two residents happy to see our New York doctor are Lavon and Anabeth, very much still together. Although Anabeth is being driven crazy by Lavon’s cousin Lynley (The new resident of the carriage house)

Zoe is intent on only spending one night and needs a reference from Brick; he challenges Zoe to find George Tucker to get him to the hearing in order to save the Bluebell Founders Parade and only then will he sign. Zoe finds George in a seedy motel far from the George Tucker she knew. She hires Lemon to help fix George, he wins the case and Zoe wins back the hearts of Bluebell.

Happy to have finished all of her unfinished business Zoe is on her way back to New York when she bumps into Crazy Earl who has blood poisoning and refuses to see Dr. Breeland. She calls her boyfriend Joel to announce she will miss her flight. Earl is still convinced that Zoe will become his daughter in law and Zoe and Wade are forced to spend the night together monitoring Earl. I think that Earl is secretly not crazy and in fact will be the one to bring them back together.

George and Tanzie run into each other, Tanzie is now dating Filmore’s attorney, George’s opposite. He responds to this news by drinking and hooking up with Lynley. This could provide a new relationship for the season, interesting as Lavon had already sworn Wade off his cousin.

The day of the Founder’s parade and Zoe’s boyfriend pitches up in Bluebell, much to the disappointment of Wade.
She thoroughly enjoys the parade and Lavon tries to convince her to stay, it seems to work and she announces to Joel that Bluebell is where she belongs and asks him to move with her. The final scene in the Rammer Jammer, Lavon is delighted to have his best friend back (I am glad that the friendship dynamic of these two has not changed), Zoe lets slip that she knew that Wade thought she would stay and that she is happy he is happy with Lemon. He aims to come clean that he is not dating Lemon but decides against it by giving her a big smooch in front of Zoe.
Showing their childlike nature Zoe copies this with a show of affection to Joel. Fans of Zade will be happy as it shows that they haven’t quite moved on from each other yet. I predict a naive Joel will not last very long in this newly formed love triangle or is it a square now?

Final Thoughts: I’m glad that the writers have moved on from Zoe/George/Wade, although now it is more Zoe/Joel/Wade but provides a relief from the repetitiveness of last season’s ending.
I’m really enjoying the friendship that is blossoming between Wade and Lemon I think it will be a good addition however Anabeth seems a bit redundant now.
I want to see more Anabeth/Lavon, they were only just falling in love last season and now they seem married. Maybe this season’s wedding?

I don’t know if I like Joel as a character, he seems a bit wet and not Dr. Hart’s type, perhaps this is intentional but I hope he grows a backbone in the next few episodes as he has to compete with other such strong male characters.
